Wedding Photography at The Stillwell House

The image layouts on this page are from Kelvin and Holly's montage wedding album.

Established in 1901, The Stillwell House is located in a cozy downtown section of Tucson. In many ways, it seems tailor made for weddings. I would not be surprised if that was the original architectural plan. There are two buildings. The main building offers an attractive room, for the bride and her girls to get ready and apply last minute touches. An area in the cantina affords the groom and his entourage the same amenities.

Nuptials at The Stillwell House

Most ceremonies occur outside in the courtyard area. The arch serves as the alter area. (See main photo below.) During cold or inclement weather, nuptials can occur inside, in front of a fireplace on the lower level of the main building. Dining can take place indoors or outdoors too. I have photographed weddings here under the best conditions. I have also been here when the weather just did not want to co-operate. When that is the case, it should be comforting to know the staff at The Stillwell House is capable of changing settings on the fly and do it with ease.

Pets and Group Photos at The Stillwell House

Group photos can be done at The Stillwell House or, time permitting, we can move to an adjacent location, nearby. The Stillwell House is not far from the La Placita Plaza and some other popular photo spots. However, wedding couples should always be mindful that moving to a different location will take precious time off the clock. Planning and co-ordinating well in advance, with your wedding photograper, is key.

The group photos shown here are a mixed bag of traditional and semi-traditional. Every couple is different. Some are very traditional, while others are not at all. One of my many responsibilities, as a wedding photographer, is to determine and implement a style that will suit and feel comfortable to my clients.

Notice the two Scottish Terriers in two of these photos. You do not see pets at weddings everyday. However, it was important to Holley and Kelvin to include them, with the rest of the wedding party. Pets and their owners can develop inseparable bond.

Dancing the Night Away, at The Stillwell House

During the warmer months, which in Tucson is about eight months out of the year, reception activities at The Stillwell House, including the dinner, toast, first dance and parent dances, typically begin outside. Later in the evening, the main show moves inside to the Cantina for the cutting of the cake and open floor dancing.

Below, Holley and Kelvin enjoy their first slow dance of the night, out on the patio at the Stillwell House.

The image layouts from pages two, three and five were from Holley and Kelvin’s montage wedding album. Holley and Kelvin selected the images for their album, from their digital proofs. I designed the pages, with their image choices. You can learn more about these albums on my Montage pages.

What everyone has been waiting for...the traditonal gashing and smashing of the wedding cake...but, alas, did not occur this time around.Everyone is either dancing the night away or moving their jagger.
